Cambridge, MA - September 10th, 2009 - Leading Edge Design Group, a leading provider of energy optimization services, recently helped Vertex Pharmaceuticals upgrade their Cambridge, MA data center and improve their ability to support future IT growth.
With the existing data center UPS nearing capacity and short-term plans to consolidate IT equipment, Vertex recognized the need to upgrade their UPS to support their growth. The challenge was to determine how the new, larger UPS could be implemented in the already space-confined data center. "Logistically, the implementation of the new UPS in the Vertex Data Center was very complicated," says Todd Boucher, Principal at Leading Edge Design Group. "It involved rack reconfigurations, electrical service alterations, horizontal cabling moves, and much more, all of which had to be completed in a tight downtime window."
After designing the configuration of the data center to support the new UPS, Leading Edge Design Group developed a detailed project plan that outlined responsibilities of numerous contractors, manufacturers, and internal Vertex teams and the timeframes for which project milestones needed to be executed to successfully implement the new systems during the downtime window. All stakeholders performed flawlessly and the UPS upgrade was completed ahead of schedule.
"We were fortunate to have an excellent group of internal Vertex team members and trusted contractors who worked closely together to ensure a seamless implementation of the data center upgrades," says Boucher. "We appreciate everyone’s trust in our design and implementation plan and are grateful for their commitment to executing it amidst a time-constrained deadline."
