LEDG Releases Results of First Annual High-Performance Research Computing Survey

Leading Edge Design Group (LEDG) releases the high-performance research computing survey results, gathering insights from research computing professionals across the U.S. and Canada.  Research computing directors, chief information officers, information technology directors, and infrastructure leaders provided meaningful feedback on key challenges and opportunities for improvements.

The LEDG First Annual High-Performance Research Computing Trends & Insights Survey strives to consolidate the expertise of research computing professionals in Higher Education. The survey, consisting of twelve questions pertaining to organizational and computing center infrastructure, aims to gather current challenges in research computing that may help peers recognize common industry issues to address.

Key 2022 findings include:

- Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are driving modernization and improvements, including footprint, density, and network throughput increases.

- Infrastructure Upgrades such as cooling and power are critical projects for high-performance computing (HPC) leaders.

- Gathering Requirements from researchers remains a substantial challenge for the HPC team.

- The Talent Search continues at two levels – qualified researchers and IT professionals to manage computing center requirements.
